Disclaimer

Just like there are risks in possibility of dogs choking by inhaling kibble, there are possibilities of dogs chocking by inhaling a bone or a piece of meat. It is very important that you supervise your pets during every meal; regardless of what you feed (whole meats, ground, kibble, etc) just like you would your biological children. A pet CPR course is also recommended no matter what diet you feel is best. Be aware that not EVERY canine is a good candidate for the RAW diet, depending on certain preexisting medical conditions. It is important that a vet check (preferably by a RAW friendly vet that understands the diet) is complete before beginning your venture. If your dog is a gulper, please be aware that a bone can be swallowed whole and possibly puncture or scratch the internal organs. Be very careful of the type of bones you feed, as well as, try to slow down your gulper by teaching them to chew the foods properly.

Safety

Another thing to remember is on the contrary of what we sometimes would like to believe, our companions are not human and have a very different and much shorter digestion track then we do.  Certain foods that humans can handle with ease can severely hurt, if not kill your pet, such as alcohol, chocolate, onion, etc., however, unlike our main diet, they thrive on RAW meat.  Although most bacteria will not effect them, we have to consider that we share our space and keep their food in the same place as ours (refrigerators, freezers, Tupperware, cutting boards). It is very important that you practice the same methods of cleanliness and apply all the same rules to their food as you do to your own for your own safety.
